Kristen Ann Champion
I make assemblages and paintings in an effort to process the human experience- especially the ways we connect and relate to each other, the unknown and the natural world. My work aims to hold space for beauty and hope amidst the mess.
Paint is my first love, but clay, fabric and metal are always welcome. I keep a camera close for collecting visual moments throughout the day. The act of layering and assembling - with painted canvas or sculptural objects - offers a balance of intention, intuition and discovery that keeps me engaged with the work.
Bio
Kristen earned her BFA in painting from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2002 and has had a quiet studio practice, a few small businesses, and many creative endeavors since — like parenting! She is lucky to be married to her best friend, raising their kids in the mountain west. She’s never not thinking about making something, but believes the most important art is living a day with attention, curiosity and care.
